Startups with ASP.Net MVC 3 and MS SQL Bizspark was created to level the playing fields for startups. Those free technologies are appealing even to startups with C# and MSSQL experience because of the reduced cost. Not using Bizspark is equivalent to saying we have money to burn and don't care about our costs. Bizspark is one the best programs MS has ever created. |

Looking for a business development co-founder I would ask what the business model/industry is before being able to offer any solid feedback. |

Should I give away 10% equity to a super advisor? The alternative is to offer 1% per milestone up to 5% and ask him to buy the other 5%. Then he does have some skin in the game and the risk of failure is higher. |

Considering an offer from a startup, two different compensation packages. Advice? I look at it this way. Each week is worth roughly 1k. They are giving him an extra 1k for not working. Presumably forever. If they get the next round of funding his salary jumps back up. His maximum exposure is 4 months. So his maximum potential loss is 5k. On the flip side, he also gets extra stock options. If he feels they are going to get funded - no downside to the stock options (assuming they aren't diluted to hell). Again, his worse case loss is 5k. His best gain win is additional stock options and an extra week of vacation for several years. |

What is are fair equity stakes between early tech founder and later biz founder? Again, hard to answer these types of questions without more information? Is your company another project management suite (1,000s of competitors, ease to build/clone) or something never done before with protectable IP and unique value proposition? If you have 6 months of development time in it total the company itself isn't that valuable until you have customers and prove your concept. How many web startups die without being able to sell any of their assets because their beta/pilots weren't very successful? |
