What exactly are the risks of using pirated software? Actually it is a serious question; I was honestly curious what info/opinions the community has on this. I think a lot of people face this question; when it comes to expensive software, the temptations of illicit discounts and piracy are great. And like I said in a comment below, I hadn't heard arguments against it laid out in a cogent manner before. So all the answers here are much appreciated. And my gravatar is real! The photo is from a mustache competition I was in once. Don't hate. |

What exactly are the risks of using pirated software? I mostly agree with you too. I will end up buying the retail-priced software (because I do want to support the livelihood of my fellow software developers), but the $1800+ price tag does sorely tempt one in another direction. And I know plenty of people in my situation, especially when it comes to Adobe products. And while the ethical considerations are legitimate, I'm really wondering what the exact legal consequences might be, because I've never heard those laid out. |
