I am relatively new to the entrepreneurial game but so far I LOVE IT! I have been working on a website that just recently launched a beta version of the product. It is essentially a sports stock market. While right now it is just a shell of what is to come, it needed to be done to test the functionality of the site on a relatively larger scale. Currently, we are in the midst of securing additional angel or VC capital to take our company to the next level.
If you would like to know more please do not hesitate to contact me!

How do I attract visitors to a free web app/social site on a low budget? It is by far the most cost efficient way to reach your target audience. People go on stumbleupon to basically be advertised to. They also track metrics that can allow you to monitor your campaigns. Good Luck! |

What are the pitfalls of converting early employees' common shares to preferred and then selling them to investors? Maybe I am missing something but I am not completely sure how it would be so unfair to the common shareholders who do not sell. If they decide to hold onto their common shares under the gamble that in the long run they will be "paid off" substantially higher than the offer that is on the table right now, and they are informed that their liquidity preference will diminish then they are trading that risk for the potential reward. I am not thoroughly educated on this topic so I may be missing something so please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks! |

How complete should my business plan be before I approach investors? One thing I forgot to add in this post is that if you are still at the idea stage of your business then you should think about trying to acquire a "bridge loan" from your family or friends. If you have any money to invest you should definitely be infusing that into the business as well because investors will definitely want to see if you have taken on any personal financial risk as well. |

Should we hire a marketing firm to spearhead our Startup Go-Live Campaign? Jim - First I would like to thank you for your response! We actually followed this blueprint exactly for our "pre-launch" site and it did work out pretty well. We accomplished the goal we set out for this beta site which was to test our market and user interactivity with the intentions of making many many corrections for our go-live. The main problem I see with networking it the way the literature stated was that it just doesn't have enough "viral reach." We literally want an EXPLOSION of users (who doesn't lol). Do you think hiring a firm or someone with good ideas would work? |

Raising seed capital without too much dilution Thank you for your response Joel. It was very helpful and confirmed that I am not out of my mind! We had figured to be pricing in the range you mentioned but your reply has confirmed our stance. At this point it comes down to who believes in the idea and believes in the team we have put in place to get it done. |

Raising seed capital without too much dilution I spoke with a gentleman who has a successful company who said that he brought on investors in the beginning and was diluted down to 35% ownership. He did not go into too much detail but stated that he bought back a majority of the shares he had sold and now holds 70% ownership. Obviously he repurchased those shares at a premium I am sure but other than the investors willing to sell them back, is there any other way to structure a deal so that this is an option? |

How do I attract visitors to a free web app/social site on a low budget? You are welcome. Other similar websites that work similarly but from my experience and what I have read are: digg, reddit, delicious. You allocate a daily budget similarly to stumbleupon except in my experience it is not anywhere near as demographically segmented. |
