comment When and how do I approach an investor?
Wanting to hire 1 or 2 more people doesn't sound like a compelling reason. Of course everyone wants to, but do you really need to before you can just afford to pay them out of your revenue? As for not charging the user, I am going to assume you have a revenue model (if not, no investor is going to invest anyway), so whether it's from users, advertising, whatever, then why not start making money? If nothing else, making money will impress investors later if you still need it.

I should mention, I know that doesn't directly answer your question but it might still be the most useful answer you get.

I would be careful competing on price. Once you start it's hard to stop.

comment How do I develop my idea for a web app while lacking resources and development drive?
I am all for shipping. It doesn't mean you need to ship crap code though, you can ship good code. Shipping an MVP doesn't mean put something worse it, it means reduce the scope but ship something good still. As for replacing your code, only if you write it poorly.

I agree that you shouldn't let it hold you back, but I don't agree about discarding what you build. If you code with maintainability in mind then your code should last quite a while. If you are talking about pivoting then I think that's an "overrated" concept.

I don't know why language-agnosticism is so popular these days. Languages are different, choose the right one for the job.

comment For alpha/beta testing, should I charge users or pay users?
It depends on your audience and the product. Documentation and process may help or hinder. I would really just try to get them excited by it, and let them know what a great deal they get to use the software for free during the beta period. If the product is filling a need, you should find some people. You also really don't need many. I wanted a lot of beta testers for my product and ended up with 2. In hindsight it was plenty, as long as they actually use it properly.
