I wasn't too impressed with SimpleNote at first glance, but at your prompting I'm giving it a shot. I do like it so far, but I am uncomfortable about hosting my ideas with an external resource.

I've tried this, but what happens is I get separated from my notebook, or i can't decipher what I wrote (especially if I'm on a train/streetcar/bus/walking). I may fall back on this method substituting my phone for a note-pad... Funny how you can forget a notebook but you never forget your phone! :)

it doesn't have to be web-based, but I have a Nokia smart phone I have with me 24/7 and I do most of my refining sitting at a desk, so ideally it would be easy/minimal work to capture initial notes with my phone and refine later on a laptop/desktop.

comment when to switch a hobby/interest to a business
well, that seems pretty obvious in the simple case, however, what is more likely to be the situation for myself is that to convert the hobby to actually being profitable, I'll have to make the switch before I'm actually running in the green (money-wise). That's the conundrum - if I cut-over too early, I may drown out, if I set the switch point too late, I may never reach it...

Terrific idea IMO! Just from a technical perspective, you can always pre-auth a purchase for amount X and bill for amount Y so long as Y<X (as done when you pre-pay for gas on a credit card or debit card). Most payment processors will let you hold on to a pre-auth for 24 hours (but check first).

Agree 100% with Zuly. Get some seed money from somewhere. Ideally, you don't want to go to an investor for such a small amount of money. Not sure where you are, but here in Toronto a sub $5000 loan would be dead easy to get - especially if you got someone to co-sign for a pre-agreed kick-back following the loan's repayment. EDIT: Don't go to a loan shark!!! Failing a bank loan, there are some financial specialists that can help you get a loan from a B-list lender (legitimate business, but usually higher percentages for higher-risk borrowers)
