How to reduce the number of users who don't complete the registration process? @GaryE delays are usually out of the control of the sender. Usually they are an issue with the recipient host or somewhere "along the way" |

Running a dating site - Use volunteers for administration - how to keep them motivated? Hi and thanks for your detailed reply - in my main job, I manage a team of 15, and it's much easier than managing a team of 3 volunteers :) But as you said, it's a completely different approach. Turnover is a big problem for me, because the learning curve is very steep, and takes about 2-3 days of my time, so i cannot work with a high turnover model. As i wrote below, I am considering rewarding them with equity, but am not fully convinced it will work. |

Running a dating site - Use volunteers for administration - how to keep them motivated? Hi Matt, thanks for your reply. I was thinking of setting aside some equity for the volunteers, but that opens a whole new set of issues. |

can-spam advice, are these messages transactional, relationship or commercial? Thanks a million for your detailed reply. I have been slowly and very carefully building up my email reputation and hope to keep it nice and clean. I will work your unsubscribe recommendations into our plan. |

Initial startup sequence for an international dating website Join about 10 local dating sites and see what they do and what you can do better. spend a lot of time on them, you will learn about user behaviour, many of these sites prob have been around for years, learn from them. |

Initial startup sequence for an international dating website Have some automated filtering so you don't end spending half your time approving profiles - have a blacklist of words, blacklist of ips, etc. for the log - every login, logout, message sent, profile viewed, chat request, missed chat request, profile change. for emailing, i discovered miaichimp too late so i have my own module - besides notifications (your profile approved, you received a message, your photo approved) you also want to send a lot of "stay awake" emails ("you didn't logged in for a week, check out these members", or "these members viewed you in the past week") |

Advice for running dating site Thank you. My site is not generic, it's an ethnic niche site, but I'm finding there are even sub-niches in it that might need separate sites later on. |

Advice for running dating site Thanks a million, you are a goldmine :) I am already operating in an ethnic niche, and yes I'm beginning to realize the fact that everybody on the site is a serial dater is NOT a bad thing. I've been hungry for success stories, but drama and quickie breakups is what's keeping them coming back. |

Started with 4 partners, equal financial investment. I've done 90% of the work, startup is now doing well and they now want a say. Please advise Kelly thank you very much for the detailed feedback, on hindsight I would have done things very differently and not spent a cent of their money the moment I felt things were not working out with them. We had no formal agreements about anything, it was just a bunch of guys who got together and decided to get something done. I've brought up the issue with one of the "partners" (the one who's a close friend of mine) and I will get back to them with two options, either give them their money back or take a (very small) equity %. Thanks again. |

“One Man Startup” - Should a add people before going out looking for funding? Thanks, that's what I've been telling myself, I guess I really just needed someone to tell it to me :) |

“Invite your Friends” feature - best practices thanks for the feedback - good idea to give people an incentive to use the feature - do you have any stats of how many people actually sign up via invites ? |

6-month budget for a startup? It's already out there and doing pretty well - but the name and branding aren't too great, that's why I'd consider using an agency. |

What percentage to give advisors / VC matchmakers? Hi Jeremy thanks for your detailed reply. Yes I do want them on the board, they are people who can add value beyond introductions, I don't expect much from them on the operational side but they will open a lot of doors and they have decades of Valley experience that I honestly don't have. I am meeting them tomorrow and will offer 5% equity on the condition that the introductions they make bring in the funding that I'm asking for within a particular time frame, and they set me up to present to at least 5 VCs. I'm in Egypt, and they are Valley based, there isn't much of an angel network here:( |

“Invite your Friends” feature - best practices Thanks for the reply - I personally hate invites, but apparently they do work....and nearly all sites now seem to be sending 2nd even 3rd and 4th invites....so I think I will stick with the 2nd. Agreed on the select from the list, will add that. |

6-month budget for a startup? I'm in Egypt, where development costs are comparable to Ukraine. I did budget for a branding exercise with a marketing agency, but I keep on hearing from people that it's a waste of time and money, so may scrap that. Thanks for your input |
