I’m a software developer in the Midwest, and I love my chosen craft. I believe that doing things right is better than doing them quickly. I also believe that, with enough practice and technique, those two things don’t have to be antithetical. I believe in hero worship. I want to surround myself with people who are better than I am, because that is an opportunity to learn from them. I have an ego; which developer doesn’t? I can, however, eat humble pie in liberal doses. Self-awareness is the first step towards progress. I am, to borrow a phrase, ambitiously lazy. I will work long hours to solve a problem that saves me ten minutes. I love to create things. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing a system come to life. Unless it gets hit by lightning and develops paternal issues. I am skeptical. I don’t drink the Kool-Aid. I rationally judge people and technology based on merit, not hype. I have a very low tolerance for people who send chain-mail, especially if they have not checked truthorfiction.com first. I have no problem projecting (I have interrupted more than one quiet meeting). I am working on my inside voice. I love to read. My stacks of books taunt me, my RSS aggregator overflows, and my bookmarks runneth over. I attend happy hour weekly; Harp on tap is the nectar of the gods.
