How much equity should a founding engineer get? Absolutely. Lawyers and NDAs is what made Google, Microsoft and Apple successful. Not good products and competing hard with other companies that had the same "idea". Google has been built on shamelessly "stealing" the search engine idea. |

Crowdsourced logo and web design work. Recent experiences? Site you'd recommend? I wonder if your idea of "closed contest" is something that you've done personally with good results or are you just throwing random ideas? 99designs works because both clients and designers trust the platform and it's easy for both parties. Your idea is time consuming for the client (how and where do you "hunt for designers"?) and the designer has no reason to trust that you'll pay them as you're just a random person on the internet. |

Crowdsourced logo and web design work. Recent experiences? Site you'd recommend? Your assumption is that "professional" designer will create designs of higher quality. This is far from being universally true. A designer will certainly cost more than someone on 99designs. They might produce a better result but the reality is that they might just as well produce worse results. I've used 99design and been happy with the end result. |

Webhosting solutions for a startup There's no such thing as "unlimited bandwidth" at any price (bandwidth costs website providers money). There are dishonest providers that promise unlimited but will either close your account or slow you down so badly that technically you have "unlimited" bandwidth but in practice your website becomes unusable to your visitors. |

Joining a startup within its first year - salary/equity expectations? 1% for 8th employee is way too optimistic. That level of equity (for non-executive employees) is given to the first/second non-founding employee, and even then if you're lucky. Consider that out of 10-20% pool for employees has to potentially scale to hundreds of future employees. This pool is fixed, a company can't spend it all on first 10 employees. |
