I am an entrepreneur, with lots of academic and some real world experience.

These days I am building a new company in the mobile app monetization space.

Sounds cool. You definatly need to work on maximizing your network. If you reach critical mass, it will be hard for new websites to compete with you. The problem is, there are existing networks (like facebook for example) that might compete with you... You need another advantage in that case. I suggest readying judo economics for inspiration.

comment Build in-house or outsource?
I assumed that business model and functionality are a given. Without those, there is no business. However, without technology being one of the core competencies, the business has no future. The business could should the world that the business model works, but then when technology shifts (and it does so in an ever increasing rate) any business that doesn't keep up will be gone. Take Google for example, had they outsourced their search engine, they might have saved a buck on the way, but they would be overtaken withing a few years by the competition. Same with every over web business.

comment Is Houston, TX a good place for startup
Competition is healthy... If you cannot raise money ×’espite the fact that it is available, then it is a clear indication that something is wrong... If there isn't enough capital available, you might not be able to make it, but that is why you should look for a place with the needed capital, and not start with a handycap.
