comment What is a fair asking price for website maintenance?
Yes I totally understand that's for responsibility and friendship. Just suggest not to charge otherwise the relationship will change and you may feel obliged.

This is not only about ethics, it involves law on spam email. I have another similar answer here: answers.onstartups.com/questions/44549/…

Did I see the same question a few days before? It seems there were already some nice answers. If that is true, I'll suggest you not to delete old question but add bounty to invite more answers, or refer to old question in new one if you have specific things unclear. My head is full and don't have good memory, correct me if wrong.

comment How do I develop my idea for a web app while lacking resources and development drive?
Though I don't know .NET, there is nothing wrong with it. Stackoverflow is built on .NET. Isn't that proof strong enough?

comment Duration of free trial to “steal” customers from my competitor?
I think 30 days is common if nothing very special in your industry that the clients can use the product normally from day one or two. If other time involved such as learning curve for the product, setup time, organization transition etc, maybe you need to consider extending the period a little longer.

comment Using Verb as Prefix in company URL
I think "get" makes more sense to product name. For company name, maybe "smartHQ", "smartTeam" or anything better? It seems too much people use "HQ" after Basecamp, but at least it is a convention. I prefer word like "hq", "team" than suffix like "or", "ster", "ly" in the case, as it looks another word after adding suffix. My 2 cents.

comment What are the pros and cons of having a business model - snatching other businesses existing customers, just a month before renewal?
@anilkumble789, that's nice. I added some opinions though a bit general. Hope that helps a little.

comment Selling my SaaS: been offered $500k plus 3-year management contract. How should I respond?
Jules, is the "keep business" option in Case 2 wrong? You mentioned you have two secret weapons which worth $1m each in Case 1. If that is true, I would definitely vote for keeping business.

comment If you are a creative studio, who owns employees ideas that they come up with whilst in your employ?
Second with @AdrianHoward. Not sure how ideas are turned into cash in your studio. Mind to introduce the rough business process?

comment I think I've been scammed by a programmer I hired
@DougT. I do agree domain experts can create and have created successful internet business. But they have some limitations: 1. Technology vision. They know less than where is the boundary of technology and the team ability. I saw a competitor doing well on internet, can I make better site to excel him? Not sure. 2. Budget and risk. For small businesses domain experts need to both invest money and find good tech guy, not a easy job. Tech guys can do this in less risk. My two cents.

comment How to calculate coupon fees
I understand starting is hard, that's why I suggest you offer free trial period if using fixed fee model. How about you work with several vendors closely for certain period for free, say two weeks or a month, visit them frequently and watch the process. They won't hide anything if this is free, and they can leave testimonials. You always need experience and client base in the beginning. It's hard to expect earning from day one.
