How do I determine the optimal price to maximize profit from a contest? That's true... It would be nice if we had enough money as they do at MIT, where a contest like this has a grand prize of $100K, enough to actually create a startup company... It really should be the prestige and "CV padding" that should be the main focus, and the cash prize secondary. |

How do I determine the optimal price to maximize profit from a contest? I like the idea of scaling the prizes based upon the number of tickets sold, but I foresee one other problem with it: advertising. If potential customers don't know exactly what they can expect to win, they are less motivated to purchase a ticket. How can I account for this too? |
