1-man show, coder/marketing/everything else… 10 months in the making, too long? The product I mentioned was an iPhone game. We released the MVP within 4 weeks and then spent another 6 weeks to tweak the game. It has done its part and made us the money and is currently on its downward spiral. Being an iPhone game, the feedback loop is pretty good and people are pretty vocal once they have paid you their money :) |

Someone wants to invest money in my company to startup carpet cleaning business? I like this suggestion. Keeps things simple and isolates the two businesses incase if anything goes wrong in one, the other is protected! +1 |

Help with mobile app monetization We have tried both IAds and AdMob and have gotten better revenues from iAds but it has poorer fill rates. So in ads which don't fill, we show AdMob. Don't expect too much from Android. Our Apple to Android earning ratio on ads are 12:1. (Sharing from our experience of having a decently popular app in the App Store. We do about 70K DAU on our free app). |

Starting a technology consulting company and working as a subcontractors Could you define bigger consulting firms - giving some examples? That would help. When I ran my 8 person startup, we did subcontracting work for a 40 - 100 person company at times. But I am not sure if this is what you mean by 'bigger' firms. |

Developing an app, android or ios first? Great Answer! +1 for the website suggestion. If it is a business app and you can actually implement it using a website (HTML5 + Javascript), definitely go for that option as many frameworks (PhoneGap, etc) help you port it to all platforms fairly easily. Much easier to update and deploy changes as well. |

How to answer questions about estimates? I have seen rackspace do this well with their dedicated server plans. Maybe you can "try" getting their service / enquiring and see how it goes and whether you could use some pages from their book. |

My co-founder turned out to be a lazy person, how should I talk to him? I completely agree with you. Been there, tried talking to him but it all came back to square one every couple of months. Eventually, I had enough and called of the partnership and went at it alone + 2 employees. We got more profitable than before in 2 months with half the work force and I have never been happier. More than anything, it will bring peace and sanity to your life minus the heartburn. You may need to rethink goals and reprioritize stuff - but trust me, you will be better for it. |

Startups with ASP.Net MVC 3 and MS SQL Go for it!! We signed up with the Bizspark prog and had the same stack as you except that we used Mongo coz our app needed a NoSql solution. Bizspark is painless and we haven't had to pay anything. 15 months down, we were acquired. So in 3 years, you have either folded, gotten acquired or are making enough money that the $999 MSDN licensing costs are peanuts in comparison. |

Market validation for expensive, enterprise software In that case, you are dealing with a suPer niche market because you will now have to look for companies that value engineering productivity. For example, in the software space, code refracting tools dont make / save money - but make developers more productive. So all companies that value engineering and developer productivity, purchase these even though they are more expensive. I think, you will need to look for such companies. |
