Dealing with uncooperative co-founders Avoid co-founders. They're nothing but trouble. |

Do single-founder companies ever get funded? Like others, PG downplays the value of an idea except when it suits him to do otherwise. There are other forms of evidence that validate your idea, such as the existence of competitors. That begs the question: What's worse - competition or infighting? You can almost guarantee that you have competition even if you don't know it, so you can't control that. But you can eliminate infighting at the earliest stage simply by going it alone which I highly recommend. |

How much startup equity should be provided to an early, senior engineer? @dnbrv: In practice, the employer IP ownership is typically not enforced if it's not the type of product the company wants to be involved in. Having said that, if it had a significant impact on the employee's performance there may well be grounds for legal action. |

does anybody know of a non-us country with low cost of incorporation You can do this online with a number of providers such as Clearcocs for around $600 (Cleardocs is $563). Annual renewal (paid directly to ASIC) is $226.50. These online services are integrated with ASIC via their API and in most cases the registration is instant. If the company name isn't composed entirely of English words (e.g. two english words tacked together without a space between them), there may be a delay while it is approved. |

Allowing instant trial download vs contacting you for trial? It really depends on what the product is and how many users per license we're talking about. It sounds like you have already released/launched, so why are you not telling us what the product is? I can understand stealth mode before launch, but after? You really won't do yourself any favours. |

Running an aggressive promotion against a competing product My thoughts exactly. Why hand over your sales revenue to the competition, especially when there's the threat of being sued? |

What to choose: freeware, shareware or software? You mention server costs. Does that mean your product establishes a session on your server(s) and is required to do so in order to function? If so, have you considered the SaaS option? |
