comment How might I send a million newsletters a month?
Thanks @jimg - When I first asked this question, there weren't as many solutions. I don't think elasticemail was available then. I found LuxSci and so far I'm happy with them. I suppose I'll stay with them until I get a reason not to. If that happens, I'll check out elasticemail and others.

@jimg - They are about the same, with some shifting in price. They also now have pricing for dedicated servers and 1,000,000 per month is $400. Four million is $850. luxsci.com/extranet/high-volume-smtp-email-pricing.html

comment When to give up on a product?
Torben: No. Enthusiasm is everything. You'll start to lose that when you see the signs of it becoming a lost cause. It's just a matter of seeing that happen and getting out before its too late.

comment Which to show first: login or register screen or both?
What I'm saying is that I think unexpected popups to register or login are bad. You should have the login/register area in a small corner of your page - and that can change to "Hello somebody" when they are logged in (preferably with cookies that remember for a month or so). It is when they push that login button, or the register button, or the "forgot password" button, that they are taken to a page (or popup if you prefer) that provide the forms with all the information to be filled in - and in those cases, you know exactly what the person has asked for: login, register, or password.

Tim: I see the top question you asked is "Best way to get a good website for a small business". I guess you'd consider that also to be "a useless question and impossible to answer objectively". No, I think Nestor's question is a good one, and worthwhile answering.

comment What Do I Charge for Pay-Per-Click
Thank you for that good idea. I used the typical affiliate rate I'm getting in terms of per click with them, and quoted that value. The resulting value seemed reasonable.

@Starter: Sorry, didn't see your last comment until now. You can find more info on the web if you look. e.g. bitlaw.com/copyright/ownership.html and read the sections about "Works Made For Hire".

comment do I own my work
@Starter: It doesn't matter whather you get $1 an hour or $1000 an hour. If you are an employee of a company, the work you do for them is theirs.

Thanks for the tip on the book "Start Small, Stay Small". Reviews of it are very good. I've now ordered it from Amazon.

@Alex: Wordpress.com is where you can go to get a Wordpress blog that will be hosted for you and everything will be set up for you. Wordpress.org is where the wordpress program itself is, and where you go if you want to download it and host it on your own website.

Moneybookers www.moneybookers.com is a British service that seems similar to HyperWallet. It still requires the recipient create an account. It seems worthwhile to compare the two and see if there are others.
