I prefer to work for startups because the relationship between effort and reward has less insulation than in a larger corporate environment. The only thing that matters to me is the work itself, and I cannot even pretend to be enthused about the prospect of career advancement in the absence of A.) being tasked with and B.) solving meaningful design challenges. Trust is an investment startup employers make in their team, and I have proven capable of delivering returns. Problem-solving is its own reward.
