Go from full time developer to contractor? As a recent work-from-home dev who started his own consultancy I Have to say it depends on two things: 1) What your software skills are in. If you know JS / CSS / HTML5 or mobile (either HTML5, Java for Android, or Objective-C for iPhone) then you can pretty much find any contract job on your terms. Nodejs, Mongo, Redis - these all our super hot right now and there's not enough developers that know them. If you're more into .Net or something then it may be better sticking with a single employer. 2)Your location. SF Bay area for example is hot with tech and easy to land interesting gigs. |

What would be a fair equity distribution between me and my co-founder? One thing to add here is that while your're busy chugging away at writing the app your partner can help handle business aspects and client interactions - including, eventually support. In the long term, there will be plenty for him to do until you start hiring more people while you work on new features and bug fixes. |
