Trained in C, familiar with C++ and Java, spent the last 10 or so years mostly in scripting (perl, shell, etc) with a little php/ajax/js on the side. I've been running linux on just about all my systems for over 5 years, and at least partially using it since '95, mostly with Debian and now Ubuntu. Lately I'm getting back into a project using C, maybe Lua, front end with php/ajax/js, and who knows what else.
Outside of the techie stuff, I enjoy photography as a hobby and do a lot of home repair both on my own home and with the local Habitat chapter. For fun, I strap the bare necessities onto my back and enjoy a weekend of backpacking.

Are .st domains reliable for web startups? Are you picking the domain because you feel that .st is short for startup, and do you intend to grow the business out of the startup space at some point? |

Why do startups need so much money? @Tim: yup, for one partially answered question. The only answer with an upvote was voted up by me. The answer was good, but I was left even more confused about the whole thing. |

Why do startups need so much money? @aslyesnow: you need to work on your accept rate. Look back at some of your older questions and click the check by the best answer. It helps close out questions that have been answered and is a nice courtesy to those that provided the answer. |

1099 required for payment? You don't send a 1099, it's given to you at the end of the year. I think Jack's comment, that they are asking for a W9, is more likely. |

Stuck in a cubicle supporting family @Tim: this wasn't intended to be completely negative, more like tough love from a drill instructor. If someone can stare adversity in the face and say "you can't tell me what I can't do", then they've got it, and this was hopefully motivating. But, when they reply that "family life is a prison sentence", then I think you're right, there are other issues they need to solve first. |

Seeking Google+ Development Partner That makes a bit more sense. Glad I held off on the down vote. |

Seeking Google+ Development Partner You're asking for a list of companies that are already working with an API that hasn't been released (and more than likely doesn't even exist yet)? Would it make sense if I asked you for a list of good mechanics that have experience working on hovercraft? |

a place to call work! I think the yes/no to the "are you alone" should be reversed. If you live by yourself, you have no distractions at home to need an office. And if you have no co-workers, you have no need for a space to share. Unless by office you are referring to a place where you can meet others in the industry rather than "get work done". |

What are key difference in the way SMEs and big companies buy IT solutions? Perhaps Skarab means SMB, Small and Medium size Businesses? |

What are key difference in the way SMEs and big companies buy IT solutions? I've always known SME to mean subject matter expert, aka a lead tech or consultant. But since they tend to work for the big companies, I'm not sure this question makes sense, or perhaps Skarab is thinking of some other acronym. |

Collecting Use taxes That was my understanding as well, which is why the linked article confused me by describing the vendor collecting a use-tax. I think the simplest answer here is that the author of the article doesn't understand the difference between a sales and use tax. |

I have a prototype, now what? Why do you need investors at this point, how will the money be used, and what is preventing you from starting small and bootstrapping? |

Is building a better product good enough? You should be at least 36% better than the competition. How you measure this is left up to an exercise for the reader. :) |

Question on patents and copycats The button on the top right says "Ask Question", singular. You should be asking one question per post. The rest of the issues with this post appear to be translation problems that could be reworded, assuming they aren't duplicate questions. |

Unemployed but with ideas burning a hole in my brain. Where to? When you're no longer worrying about how you'll put food on the table, then you can dedicate yourself 100% to the startup. Until then, you'll have to settle for the method many have done before you, and work multiple jobs at once. |

Why so few “minority-owned” start-ups? Minority-owned start-ups != minority-owned firms seeking angel capital. So is the question how do we convince minorities to borrow more money to start their business? Perhaps the question should be "how do we convince non-minority-owned firms that they don't need angel capital to start-up?" |

How to get people to post on a new classifieds website I'm not sure what you expect for suggestions here. If your site isn't better than those out there already, then it's worse because you're late to the party. In addition to craigslist, there are so many other copy cats doing this (lmgtfy.com/?q=used+college+book+store) not even counting word of mouth and school specific bulletin boards. |

How to get people to post on a new classifieds website To put it another way, you just gave us the address to a plot of empty dirt and a "coming soon" sign and asked us how to convince people to visit your store. |

How to get people to post on a new classifieds website You haven't said how your idea is better or different than existing web sites. A domain name built with a free design app isn't even an idea, it's a place holder. |
