Trained in C, familiar with C++ and Java, spent the last 10 or so years mostly in scripting (perl, shell, etc) with a little php/ajax/js on the side. I've been running linux on just about all my systems for over 5 years, and at least partially using it since '95, mostly with Debian and now Ubuntu. Lately I'm getting back into a project using C, maybe Lua, front end with php/ajax/js, and who knows what else.
Outside of the techie stuff, I enjoy photography as a hobby and do a lot of home repair both on my own home and with the local Habitat chapter. For fun, I strap the bare necessities onto my back and enjoy a weekend of backpacking.

Is it illegal for my employer to ask me for details about my personal expenditure? +1 The question is what you are worth, not what you need. If this is how the boss decides on salaries, then high worth staff will leave for better pay, and low worth staff will be left. Is that the company the boss wants to run? And more importantly, is that the company you want to work for? |

How does “second to market” compete with “first to market” when the company that was first to market is very entrenched in the market already? To "get your name out there", it may be as simple as buying ads, or letting people know in the appropriate community. You have to include an early adopter discount or a trial version of your product to spark the interest. For myself, in the enterprise space, I keep a network of sales people that would work on commission. And if you don't know how to make a better solution, then why would you be starting a business? |
