comment How can I transition my employer to being a consulting client?
If you are UK based permie -> contract is 100% IR35 caught (hmrc.gov.uk/ir35) if you are looking at going contracting find another place to work, IR35 caught contracting is not worth it, you'll end up with less pay for the same job even if you get a raise.

Agree completely! Secondly it will, to a degree, depend upon which country you operate in I should think. A useful site for UK based people is payontime.co.uk

Or (me being in cynical mode) they will overcharge you and throw anybody they have spare at the job and give you something working but hardly perfect and they will also charge an absolute fortune for "changes" to the spec.

If you are seriously looking at bringing in contractors I would suggest looking for an individual contractor, consultancies are very expensive and will probably charge out thier "consultants" at double the rate you could hire a contractor for yourself,

Most career contractors will be used to 3/6 month rolling contracts and if the work is interesting and the rate is right are unlikly to suddenly dissapear. If all your contractors suddenly desert you for no obvious reason, I would suggest that you have other problems that you need to identify and fix ASAP.
