Evaluate an offer for a startup advisor @Joel One big reason why he might not be vying for equity rather than cash is that he might not have the necessary money to invest in the startup. If that's the case, how does it change things? |

Evaluate an offer for a startup advisor I think I understand what Joel's saying: (1) If the person's truly passionate and committed, they should be trying to negotiate equity as payment, regardless of how small the amount might be. (2) If the person's promised cash upon success, he can do very little and hope things pan out in the short term. However, if he's promised equity upon success, he's in it for the long haul. |

Why split equity at the beginning? @Alain Is that because of the frequency of pivoting? |

Why split equity at the beginning? @Tim Yeah, I've asked similar questions, but they all have distinct differences that warrant separation IMO. |

Why split equity at the beginning? @Tim, I agree that productivity is what matters. The only way to measure that is to set milestones for each person, right? |

How much equity is a business plan worth? You're right: the business plan usually changes significantly over time. My view on business plans is that they're for proving, or validating, that the product or service is desirable to users, and that the revenue streams are valid and worthwhile. |
