Answers OnStartups is a question and answer site for entrepreneurs looking to start or run a new business. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am an Entrepreneur and I have plenty of experience running my own business online successfully for the past 12 years, but I have a new project that really fills a need, and I know what needs to be done, but I know there are people better suited than me to manage the project and the business, so I am looking for one of them.

It is a community of sorts that we are building, and the frame work is built and the site is in beta currently, but I need someone who can keep the flywheel spinning once we get it going. Following up with contributors and content providers, etc.

Will the right person please stand up!

Best of luck with the project RobG. Perhaps if you outlined what the role of this individual would be in greater detail that would elicit better and more qualified responses for the position. Is this a part time position or full time? Will there be any compensation? A little history about yourself. – Usman Sheikh Apr 9 '10 at 7:22
The role of the individual would be essentially a COO or Operations Manager. The person that holds the project together and keeps it moving forward. So for example, we are going to have a community that needs to be managed and overseen to make sure the contributors are somewhat on point regarding the vertical market we are in, (this will be disclosed to the right individual... Actually the right indavidual could probably find out on his own;) So while he is not expected to be the moderator, he/she must understand the moderation of the entire community and be able to delegate it to others. – RobG Apr 12 '10 at 12:48

I am an aspiring entrepreneur so I'm possibly not the most qualified to answer this question but I do have an opinion on this matter from personal experience.

Find somebody who's background compliments yours. For example, if you are entirely confident of your technical skills but lacking in management skills then find somebody meeting the exact opposite criteria.

It's important (in this example) that they have SOME technical skills so they can follow the direction of the company and fully understand your role.

The last thing you want is a yes-man. Somebody too much like yourself can let your mistakes go overlooked.

Thanks for the input. You are correct, I am not looking for a "Yes" man, but I am looking for someone who can take the ideas and turn them into reality. It is an exciting project in a very fun industry that I know extremely well, but I am smart enough to know what I don't know... I do know that there are plenty of people who are better at running a business than I am, and I am looking for one of them to become my partner on this project. – RobG Apr 12 '10 at 12:51
