We are looking to get the most bang for our buck, what is the best method for marketing our mobile application? Are there services that specialize in marketing for mobile applications? Any suggestions?

It depends on what it does. Can you give us a link? – ThomPete Jan 22 '10 at 9:09
We do not have a link as yet; we are deep into the planning stages. One question that keeps coming up is how to effectively market this app. We feel it will be a game changer, but without effective and skilled marketing, it will get lost in the sea of other applications out there. – GULU_Apps Jan 26 '10 at 15:38

For getting information on when and how people are using your app, I recommend Localytics' mobile analytics. Getting good analytics so you can better target & frame your marketing is key to cost-effectiveness.

Those are traditional ways that everyone seems to do - are there any revolutionary, ground-breaking, seldom used methods to get the word out about your application? Are there any firms that specialize in marketing mobile applications? – GULU_Apps Jan 26 '10 at 15:31
Define your target market. What are their habits/lifestyle? What other products/sites/apps do you think they use? Study those campaigns and ride those. A thorough deep search is powerful. – publicrelate Nov 26 '10 at 3:09

Difficult to tell w/o knowing more.

  1. what platform - iphone, android, winmo ?
  2. what target - consumer, business
  3. what type - game, ecommerce, utility

Find a direct competitor and deep search where they are - and then target the same media outlets.

Or - if you have $$$ go to an agency and have them do the above. If your product warrants it, gorilla marketing companies can offer non traditional media placement.

"Guerilla" perhaps, unless King Kong is the target audience? :-) – Seenu Mar 20 '10 at 5:22
what? don't like magilla gorilla? - Nice catch: definitely a typo. – jimg Mar 24 '10 at 2:13
I'd also advise that any one can create and implement their own effective guerilla marketing campaign, given that they have the time, resourcefulness and manpower. Particularly with SM and the WWW, the world is getting smaller, and it's getting easier to define and reach a much more finely tuned segment of your target market. AdMob is supposed to be good, and they were recently purchased by Google: http://www.admob.com/
