I'm looking for business opportunities developing software for professionals. The fields I am most familiar with are software development and design, so I thought I would start there. I'd like to identify pain points to brainstorm product ideas, but I realized I'd have no idea where to start looking. Are there forums where professionals in these industries discuss (and hopefully complain) about their work?

what about the other stackexchange sites? stackoverflow.com and ux.stackexchange.com sound like viable candidates – jimg Feb 26 at 17:26
How about first working for someone else and determine what the peoples needs are and how this is being delivered and then creating a product. You want software development professionals tell you what their "pain points" are as far as software libraries(products) are concerned when quite a few of them are able to solve those themselves and quite often do. – Karlson Feb 26 at 17:33
@jimg I thought about that, I use SO myself, but they are really Q/A oriented, so I see a lot of technical problems, but not many things that could be a product. I should analyse it and see if there are very common problems that a software component library would solve. – Charles Feb 26 at 17:56
@Karlson I am a professional software developer. I want to research what other are too busy to make for themselves but are willing to pay for, and determine if my own pain points are common enough to make a viable product out of. Thanks. – Charles Feb 26 at 18:00
