I am interested in how much of your sellings are thru Credit card / PayPal / PO / Wire / Fax / Phone / Check / Money Order... Can you, please, tell me first hand what are your payment options selling statistics (in percents) as software uISV?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

You might want to comment on what price level you're interested in as I suspect the data is somewhat sensitive to the price someone charges (you'll get more po's for a $1M purchase than a $1 purchase) – Dane Dec 2 '09 at 23:22
I am talking about microISV product, 20$ - 40$ price range. – Spiro Dec 3 '09 at 9:36

We manufacture and sell target stands and accessories directly to end customers. Our average order is $89.77.

Here are our payment method stats:

  •   4.2% - Paper Money
  • 60.0% - Credit Card
  • 35.8% - PayPal

+1, nice stats and from the comment above it sounds like these are relevant to the question-asker. – Jason Dec 3 '09 at 14:41

Our payment stats are (approximately):

  1. Check 70%
  2. Wire 20%
  3. ACH 10%

SaaS product with monthly fees $600-$5000 / mo

We don't take credit cards or PayPal to keep costs down (those 5% charges really add up!). Wires (which can also get expensive) are mostly used by international customers where it's not practical to send a check.

It completely depends on the customer.

B2C won't be POs or wires. B2B still might not be if it's cheap (e.g. $20/month is even under the (American) Federal Government's requirement to issue POs). If very expensive ($50k+) it's unlikely to ever run a credit card.

Hi Jason, Thank you for your reply. I am about to start microISV business, selling mainly 20-40$ desktop utility programs. I intend to do this internationally. B2C would be my target group, (of course I would like to have B2B and B2G customers :)). I am wondering, how important for this price range and for my product niche are possibilities such as PO / Wire / Fax / Phone / Check / Money Order? I am in process of considering payment processors, and am not willing to mix too many of them if their options are not necessary for what I sell :). – Spiro Dec 3 '09 at 9:43
You probably don't need anything but credit cards. I know some processors take a bunch of payments -- and there's nothing wrong with that -- but generally it will be Credit Card AND at this point I would add PayPal. – Jason Dec 3 '09 at 14:40
This clarify many things. Thanks a lot for your help! – Spiro Dec 3 '09 at 18:25
