We're looking to start up our first store. We're researching various locations/streets and getting feedback and comments from other store owners and friends.

What are the best readings we should read before anything? Any general advice from other retail owners?

Hi Alex, and welcome to the site. Please take a moment to read our FAQ. Polling the community for a list of reading resources is not allowed on the Stack Exchange network. You are welcome to edit your question to make it more specific to a problem you are currently encountering, and if the new version meets our guidelines we can look at reopening your question. Also note that asking for "general advice" is not appropriate either. It must be a specific question. – Zuly Gonzalez Jul 22 '12 at 18:51
@Zuly, I don't see anything in the FAQ that suggests that this question is not appropriate. I find the question specific enough as he is looking for books on a specific subject matter. This question is more interesting than many allowed questions on this site so hope you will reconsider. – Kekito Jul 23 '12 at 12:51
would it be ok if I remove the last question and just ask for nice books/articles about retail store ownership? Thanks – Alex Barredo Jul 23 '12 at 17:26
@Kekito A lot of the What kind of questions should I not ask here? section is relevant, but particularly: "To prevent your question from being flagged and possibly removed, avoid asking subjective questions where every answer is equally valid...". Also the description for the "not constructive" close reason says "... polling, or extended discussion". Also please see this meta question and this MSO question. – Zuly Gonzalez Jul 23 '12 at 20:01
These two blog posts may be helpful too: blog.stackoverflow.com/2010/09/good-subjective-bad-subjective and blog.stackoverflow.com/2010/11/qa-is-hard-lets-go-shopping. I do agree that it is not explicitly stated in the FAQ, but it is covered under the general rules of "not constructive". Perhaps we should make it more explicit in the FAQ to avoid confusion? Other SE sites have done that. – Zuly Gonzalez Jul 23 '12 at 20:03
