I am not sure why you got downvoted, question looks fine to me and would likely help others down the track too. – Joel Friedlaender Apr 14 '12 at 5:44

What is the underlying reason why you are going after these awards? To gain credibility? If this is the reason couldn't you gain credibility by offering a useable, top notch service instead and then possibly the awards would come to you. I did not down vote by the way, I think it's an interesting situation to ponder. – Tim Apr 14 '12 at 13:42

Get talents, smart people, don't pay attention to awards too much – user983248 May 12 '12 at 1:28

I don't think it works quite like that. Go do things that add value and teach people and help people and companies. THEN you will get the recognition. The premise of your question sort of implies a doing it backwards. Go seek out ways to help startups in their hiring process. Make a name for yourself by providing real value. – TimJ Jun 9 '12 at 2:59

IMHO, you should not apply to any 'competitions' and/or awards.

It give you very little in terms of PR/marketing - You can look at all the companies that run in the last few years in competitions out there (e.g. techcrunch) and see that only the ones that created real value happend to still be around the block.

I would focus-focus-focus my resources on building a great product/service and creating value to my users.

However, if the target market is to get recruiters or HR type folks on board, I would imagine that a couple of awards in the right domain would certainly help with the profile. – tehnyit Jul 23 '12 at 15:29

Yep... it might help the company but I would suggest to do it only if 'on the way' you can focus on your advantage and improve it so the outcome is not 'just' the winning but the service/product (=value) you will bring to users. – Ido Green Jul 24 '12 at 12:03
