I want to know how can I calculate the number of shares that exist in my startup. Today we have 10K in assets. So now I want to know how many shares we have as a company/startup.

As many as you decide to issue. – Karlson Mar 27 '12 at 17:40

If you have incorporated as a company, with a structure that issues shares, check the documents.

If you haven't incorporated with a structure that issues shares, the answer is none.

@Agusti-N shares are portions of a company. If your company exists as a corporation, then this number will be documented somewhere in the incorporation documents. If your company does not exist as a a corporation, then the answer is none. When you decide to incorporate, you can issue however many shares you want. – Elie Mar 27 '12 at 18:21

@Agusti-N As Elie and I have said. It's either none, or "some" and "some" will be specifically documented. If you want to incorporate, and are trying to work out how many shares to create, that's up to you. 10. 10,000 or 1,000,000 your lawyer/accountant can advise better. – Nick Stevens Mar 27 '12 at 19:01
Thanks Nick and Elie ;D – Agusti-N Mar 28 '12 at 18:08
