Are there any resources on social media related websites, on the number of paying members? Or are there any rules you can use to calculate the number of users that will pay of a userbase count?

Im building a social media nice website but looked lately at a lot of social media websites including the ones booming in the dating segment like badoo for example. What I like to know is some numbers on how much users on these and other sites where they can pay for premium membership in general convert to a paying member.

Are there any resources rules of thumb that can apply to this topic? Can you calculate the number of growth on a social media site or are there any rules of thumb on this? Say you have 100 new user registrations a day im curious on how many you could be able to convert to paying members.

I don't think there are any rules of thumb. It would vary from site to site and between industries. The book 'Free' by Chris Anderson has some case studies with actual numbers. – Susan Jones Feb 26 '12 at 9:29
Thanks thats a start it seems the book is free to download now, so I look at it. – Rubytastic Feb 26 '12 at 18:06
