I'm helping a friend out who is starting up a business providing bookings in independently-owned serviced apartments (in Cambodia) and I'm trying to find out what software (open source or otherwise) is used at the backend to manage the whole pre-sales / sales / offline booking cycle.

  1. Its a bit more complicated than a regular room booking management software, because there will be a large team of call center agents who will take bookings via phone (not online).
  2. There will be agents deployed on the street to make contact with and gather details from the serviced apartment owners
  3. The serviced apt owners will call and update with availabilit status as well.

So what is your question? Are you trying to write your own software to do this, or figure out the specific software another business is using? – rbwhitaker Feb 7 '12 at 5:34
Sorry - I'm trying to figure out what's the right software to use for this industry / space. – matt74tm Feb 7 '12 at 5:38
Thoughts? I'm unsure about handling the offline booking management (#1 and #3) - how would that link up... #2 is probably a good CRM. – matt74tm Feb 8 '12 at 1:11
Offline aspect can't be handled with technology - they'll have to call it in or have someone check availability some how. Other than that use a Google Spreadsheet to get you started. Setup a form where apartment owners can submit in their availability. Have your call center use the Google doc to check and set availability. ;) evolve from there. – Ryan Doom Feb 8 '12 at 5:46
This is like a 100-200 man call center operation with live inventory changes. I do need to use technology. – matt74tm Feb 9 '12 at 0:36

If I understood well you mainly need some kind of renting management system which will offer those employes in help center (or agents on street) to enter renting space renting spaces (flats, rooms, etc) and manage their booking by phone or whatever.

Clients will call and search for a flat to rent and call center agent will search if there is something available and book. After that it will call owner to tell him that there is a new booking or whatever workflow is... if that is correct than maybe is better to google for some "renting management software", "property management" or some keywords like that ... hope I helped in any way...
