Answers OnStartups is a question and answer site for entrepreneurs looking to start or run a new business. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a sole proprietorship registered in Pennsylvania and I need to register a DBA for it.

I am looking for a service that might be able to do this for me. I've looked at possibly using Legal Zoom but I haven't found them to be able to do a DBA on an existing corporation...

Lawyers that I have used to incorporate the business wanted too much in my opinion

So are there services that would be able to do this for me for a reasonable amount of money?

You can do it for $70 directly via the Pennsylvania Secretary of State. The form and instructions are here: http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_160329_488547_0_0_18/311.pdf

Lawyers will charge you up the wazoo to fill out this simple form. I'd charge slightly less :D

The reason I am asking for a service would be to check for the Existence of the name that I would be filing, which in the case of my own filing would have to be done by me or you. :) – Karlson Jan 23 '12 at 21:28
corporations.state.pa.us/corp/soskb/csearch.asp It primarily shows Corps and LLCS and LLPs but Fictitious Names (DBAs) are also searchable and labeled as such. If you need any more help just holler :) – Henry the Hengineer Jan 23 '12 at 21:36
