These days most webapps/web startups have really attractive videos about their "about to launch" or launched startups highlighting the features of it. Are there any web services or companies that make videos? If I were to make the video by myself, what are some good tools/software to make a really catchy and creative video for my webapp?

I'm in love with Grumomedia, a media agency with this kind of portfolio. A classic DIY tool is recording a screencast of you giving a demo, see for example Simple. There are a bunch of software that can do this if you google it. Quicktime used to have this feature, too. Another creative way to make a DIY video is the stop-motion technique, see for example Spotify There's a website dedicated to promotional startup videos to look for inspiration: http://startup-videos.com/ |

It's really easy and cheap to make high-quality, budget video these days. I would try to find someone that knows what they're doing, pay them or trade services. Example: I know of someone who's family did a surprise youtube commercial for an iPhone app. They crushed it and it's now a demo app on every iPad in every Apple store. |

The easiest way is to pay a "creative agency" like for example http://www.commoncraft.com (check out their share point add http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s12Jb5Z2xaE) The best is to ask the company who's video you enjoyed to tell you which agency they used. Pro
Cons
The cheapest way would be todo your video yourself by using just a simple presentation program. This could be Microsoft's Powerpoint, Apples Keynote (my favorite ;) ) or a web service like http://prezi.com which offers solutions which aren't covered by the other two programs mentioned. You can then record your presentation and edit the film in your favorite Video Editor. Pro
