I'm getting pegged to become a part of a new Product (physical object) startup. I would be the brand director for the company, responsible for all things non-product design related. This would include marketing & communications as well. What do you think is a fair distribution for something like this? There are 2 others involved in the company, both product designers.

Check Joel's Totally Fair Method to Divide Up The Ownership of Any Startup.

IMHO it's comprehensive enough to help you with your question.

Check out the equity calculator

from the site:

Welcome to the Co-Founder Equity Calculator! It is based on almost 3 years of one-on-one discussions with entrepreneurs through the co-founders meetup, the founder conference and advising various founders.

why the minus vote? It's an equity distribution calculator, isn't the question about equity distribution? – Chamilyan Aug 30 '11 at 22:59
I'm assuming it was because you didn't really answer his question. I up-voted you because I thought the calculator was pretty cool, and at least provides some insight into the process and a starting point :) – Alex Aug 31 '11 at 7:05
yeah I thought so too. I found it a little while ago and have been pitching it to the questions that ask about equity. – Chamilyan Aug 31 '11 at 7:42
