Looking to bring on some developers and using sites like Vworker.com. While looking for prices to offer I'd like to get an idea of what is a good price and a poor price for developers in different countries. I was reviewing the CIA world factbook to get an idea of overal economic differences but its just to generic. Any other easy to find data sources that people have used prior to pricing someone in another country?

To add. I know that I can set an gerneral job out there and have people bid on it which would give me an idea of price however I have someone specific in mind and don't want to ask for bidding. – John Bogrand May 20 '11 at 21:56

Interesting I was able to veiw the prices paid for each developer on O desk and what they were asking for. There asking price was almost always much higher then what they settled for. I was able to query by the region that I wanted and get a range of prices based on experience. Helpful thank you. – John Bogrand May 21 '11 at 3:58

Thinking about price per hour with regards to developers is mentality from the industrial revolution (or maybe earlier) and not appropriate for knowledge workers. It is though, still widely used. Because an excellent developer seems to be in the range of 10 to 100 times more efficient than an average one, the price per hour is hardly relevant. Use instead VWorker.com to hire top rated coders for smaller project, which requires the skills and competences you need. They will offer a fixed price for doing the work and you can judge them on their price per project and not price per hour. If you like their work, hire them for new projects or formalize it in a way that you give them a basic wage per month and an additional wage per project to reduce their risk.

Familiar with fix bid. No have that research and adhoc that is more difficult to define for fix bid work that I want to farm out but prior to putting a price down I wanted some thoughts on how to get the price for each country. – John Bogrand May 20 '11 at 13:32

I get VWorkers to do research work for me using fix bids. I have to admit that it is tricky to scope the projects right, but often I make a fixed bid project for each mile stone. I do, however, understand that it is sometimes better to work by time than for a fixed rate when it comes to research. – David May 20 '11 at 13:35

@John Bogrand: ODesk provides the cheapest resources and the workers to be competitive at the same time.
