What is the single most useful accounting book for the bootstrapped entrepreneur? It is my single largest flaw in my business education, I imagine a lot of people are in the same boat.

The best book I've read on accounting/bookkeeping is Bookkeeping Made Simple. The basics are well explained. It doesn't cover tax structures and other advanced accounting topics; however, a solid understanding of the fundamentals presented in this book should be the first step. It's also a very quick read if you skip the exercises.

Personally, I was able to have a much more intelligent conversations with my CPA after reading this book.

For more, read my 4 star review on Amazon.

Book ordered, thank you. – Stronico Jan 18 '11 at 15:35
@Stronico, I hope you like the book as much as I did. And if you think my review at Amazon is accurate, I would really appreciate a "helpful" vote. :-) Thanks. – Clint Jan 18 '11 at 21:02
I haven't read it yet! – Stronico Jan 19 '11 at 15:18

Rich Dad, Poor Dad changed how I manage money forever. I sold my luxury car because of it.

It will not replace real accounting, but will teach you why people struggle, regardless the amount of money they earn. Including your accountant and banker.

RDPD was the first book that got me thinking about how to manage my money. – Clint Jan 18 '11 at 10:01
Interesting book, written by a documented liar and is the basis for a huge scam. While he makes some good points, I would not recommend that you learn from him. (johntreed.com/Kiyosaki.html) – Elie Jan 18 '11 at 15:07
@Elie: I know, I did some research on him before and the page you mention is pretty well documented. I don't know for sure what is true of what is false, however what I know is the RDPD is probably the best book on the subject. I have over 10 others best sellers on the subject, and they are describe similar methods, but with less styles (personal opinion) – user3997 Jan 18 '11 at 16:15
