Has anyone here used Braintree (http://www.braintreepaymentsolutions.com/)? Are you happy with them?

No, but I do have way too much experience with spam. – alphadogg Dec 15 '10 at 17:02
What do you mean? I'm asking an honest question. I have nothing to do with them. – deb Dec 15 '10 at 17:04
Well, my impression is that this isn't a review site. And, while subjective is subjective, :) this one seems more subjective than most other startup questions. Maybe I'm wrong... – alphadogg Dec 15 '10 at 17:14
I'm coming from this question answers.onstartups.com/questions/9750/… – deb Dec 15 '10 at 17:18
it's similar but most of the answers are about authorize.net – deb Dec 15 '10 at 17:26

This is Monica from Braintree. Regarding Frank's comment, you're not at risk if your processing choices ever break. You can work with any merchant account provider you choose and you can even maintain a back up account if you want. There are also other billing providers that work in conjunction with Braintree. If you decided to leave, Braintree would help you port your data to a new provider without a cancellation fee.

Hope that helps! You can see what others are saying about Braintree here: http://www.braintreepaymentsolutions.com/buzz

Monica, thanks for the clarification. I was under the impression that you could not use any merchant account, and I was wrong. I would love to see braintree get a rest api. It would make development easier for all languages. – Frank Dec 17 '10 at 23:28

Braintree is great, but you are locked into their gateway, that is a huge minus for us. The problem with building on an exclusive gateway such as paypal or braintree is that if your processing choices ever break so will your app.

If you dont foresee changes to your processing then they are one of the best.

(self promotion:) might want to check out Payfacade.com we're trying to solve that problem. – Olivier Lalonde Dec 16 '10 at 1:04
@oliver its a smart idea, and I know it will be successful. In my old days we used to use an asp component called X authorize that did a very similar thing. My only concern would be adding another layer of both price and possible failure. Make sure you have 100% uptimes. It would be best if you could also handle IPN paypal, and subscriptions since most SAAS apps are focused around those issues. – Frank Dec 17 '10 at 23:26
