We are planning to launch productivity web app :)

Summer is defiantly slow time on web and I was thinking, is it better not to launch in summer and wait till autumn?

Unless your product is seasonal (productivity app for Christmas shopping?) - launch as soon as you have a viable minimum product (one that delivers value to the customer)

And Vanco is right - the Internet is global.

The internet is global if you are ready to sell internationally. Most startups I believe they aren't in the beginning. – Stefanos Tses May 12 '10 at 18:19

We from our side, have decided to launch next month on a small scale but to postpone a press release until September. That gives us insight in user behaviour and allows us to finetune our offering, but we won't waste our sole opportinity for press coverage in the vacation period.

Launch as soon you ready, but hold your marketing efforts until fall when people can really pay attention to it.

Can I ask why? Especially as we have pay-per-click marketing, i.e. pay nothing unless someone is paying attention. I would think this consideration impacts the type of marketing to choose, i.e. no full-page spreads in Northern hemisphere print magazines in July, but doesn't invalidate marketing per se? – Jesper Mortensen May 12 '10 at 14:53

It all depends on the type of software you selling. Corporations usually don't have money on their budget this late on the fiscal year. September-October is when the new budgets are getting approved so managers can spend money on software purchases. – Stefanos Tses May 12 '10 at 18:17

Why wait?

If it is ready, then launch it.

Assuming you are ready, the sooner you launch, the sooner you get feedback and you can start making the neccessary changes. Also, it takes a while to build up traffic, so you will gain some valuable insight into what people want and how best to market your website.

You may be feeling a little apprehensive about your adventure, but that is normal. Don't let the fear of failing stop you. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Go, go, go!

It's summer where you live, and winter on the other hemisphere. Internet is global.
